This work incorporates sections of
two destroyed 1959 collages (Juley
photo nos. 103 and 227; j0004895 and
j0005014). A fragment of the former
also appears in White Collage with Black
Stripe (c113), and a fragment of the
latter appears in Sun and Sea (c99).
Beginning with Motherwell’s 1965
exhibition at the Phillips Collection,
this work was often shown with the title
White Collage with Red Stripes.
