This collage was begun in Saint-Jeande-Luz during the summer of 1958.
An early version (Juley photo no. 178;
j0004968), without the collage element
at the lower center, was shown at the
Sidney Janis Gallery in 1959 and at
Galleria Odyssia, Rome, in 1962. That
collage element, part of an envelope
with the name and address of the
French photographic agency Actualités
Mondial Photo printed on it, was added
sometime around or after 1972 (the
five-digit postal code that is printed on
the envelope was not used in France
until 1972).
