comments
Motherwell painted this work on handmade Richard de Bas Inclusion Florales
paper, which contains pressed flower
petals and ferns that are visible on its
surface. The alternative title May Day,
which is based on Motherwell’s inscription, was probably meant to date the
work rather than as a title.
