Motherwell initially gave this work
to the Museum of Modern Art, New
York, in 1987 with the title Drunk with
Turpentine No. 42, but he subsequently
corrected it to Drunk with Turpentine
No. 41; earlier studio documents show
that Drunk with Turpentine No. 41 had
been the original title.
