comments
In 1972, Motherwell gave this small
Elegy to the poet Octavio Paz (1915–
1998). In a 1984 letter to Motherwell,
Paz described the work as an oil painting, but it was more likely done in
acrylic, which was Motherwell’s preferred painting medium at this time
(Dedalus Foundation Archives). We
have not been able to verify the medium,
as the current location of the work is
unknown.
