This work is seen pinned to a wall in
photographs of Motherwell’s studio
taken by Ugo Mulas in November 1967
(see fig. 112 in volume 1). The white
paint over the horizontal charcoal line
was added at an unknown later date.
Notes on the artist’s studio card show
that the work was still in Motherwell’s
possession in 1987, but we do not know
what happened to it thereafter.

from a Polaroid photograph.
