comments
The dedication on the verso of this
work is to the poet Frank O’Hara
(1926–1966), who was the curator of
Motherwell’s exhibition at the São
Paulo Biennale in 1961 and of his retrospective exhibition at the Museum of
Modern Art in 1965. It was returned to

comments
The title of this work refers to Tristan
Tzara’s Cinéma calendrier du coeur
abstrait (Cinema Calendar of the
Abstract Heart), first published in
1920 with illustrations by Jean (Hans)
Arp. The biomorphic shapes allude to
Arp’s illustrations in a general way.
