comments
This work was originally painted on a
rectangular cardboard support. At an
unknown date, Motherwell either tore
the right and left sides of the work or
discovered that they had ripped on their
own and chose to maintain the fragmentary appearance of the work. It was
already torn when shown at Knoedler
& Company in 1981. When it was
exhibited in 1983, it was shown for the
first time with its current title.
