Motherwell painted this work in
Saint-Jean-de-Luz during the summer
of 1958. A verso inscription (not in
Motherwell’s hand) indicates that it was
originally given the number 7 in the
Bull series. By the time it was exhibited
in São Paulo in the fall of 1961, however, it had been retitled Iberia No. 11
even though it was not reworked.
