This work was made in East Hampton in
July 1946, at the same time as Blue with
China Ink (Homage to John Cage) (c38).
It contains a piece of the patterned
German wrapping paper that Motherwell
had been using in his collages since
1943. This may be the work that was
shown as Suite in Three Movements in
the Kootz Gallery’s Homage to Jazz
exhibition that December, along with
The Flute (c6) and Blue with China Ink
(Homage to John Cage).
