comments
Motherwell incised “St. Jean de Luz”
across the top of this painting, which
was painted there during the summer
of 1958. The dedication on the verso is
to Motherwell’s in-laws, Joseph and
Marjorie Iseman, and their family.
(Marjorie Iseman was Helen
Frankenthaler’s sister; Joseph Iseman
was also Motherwell’s lawyer at the
time.)
