This collage includes fragments of a
proof for a 1985 lithograph, Burning
Sun, printed on a white ground, and of
a 1988 lithograph, Octavio Paz Suite:
Untitled (Engberg and Banach 2003,
nos. 357 and 439). It was used as the
basis for a 1988 print, French Revolution
Bicentennial Suite V (Engberg and
Banach 2003, no. 386).

The photographic imagery at the center
of this collage is rare in Motherwell’s
work. This collage is the only work in the
French Revolution Bicentennial series
that was neither included in Soria’s
Grande histoire de la Révolution française
nor used as the basis for a print.
