This work includes a fragment from a
1984 print, Mexican Night II (Engberg
and Banach 2003, no. 348). An early
version, begun in 1985, had areas of raw
canvas showing in the ground, mostly
in the lower parts. That version was
consigned to Knoedler & Company
from April 1985 to June 1989. After the
work was returned to Motherwell, he
extended the blue-gray paint into those
areas of the ground.
