comments
This collage incorporates a fragment of
an earlier painting on paper, I.H. Series
No. 3 (see the Comments for w315).
The torn packaging paper placed near
the upper right center had been used to
send Motherwell copies of the catalogue for his 1978 exhibition at the
Royal Academy of Arts, London; it is
postmarked February 3, 1978.
Motherwell previously used the
title Royal Water Music for a 1967 collage (c201).
