works had been framed, Motherwell
signed them and inscribed the titles on
the verso, directly on the framer’s tape.
Unfortunately, the color descriptions of
the two works were mixed up: this work
was mistakenly inscribed “ascending
(blue)”; but the blue collage has no
verso inscription. The error was subsequently corrected, but the inscriptions
remain.
