The title of this collage refers to the
small, torn fragment of brown wrapping
paper, which includes a label from
Andrews/Nelson/Whitehead, a New
York supplier and manufacturer of fine
artists’ papers. The sheet music is a
lithographic reproduction of Stravinsky’s
Le sacre du printemps.

label from a package of fifty sheets of
29 x 41–inch, 250-gram Arches cover
paper that is placed near its center.
This paper was used in Motherwell’s
1976 aquatint and etching Red Sea I
(Engberg and Banach 2003, no. 193), a
print published in conjunction with the
publication of H. H. Arnason’s monograph Robert Motherwell (Arnason
1977b).
