The title of this collage refers to the
brown paper shipping wrapper with a
mailing label from the Museo Civico di
Torino (postmarked September 2,
1974). Photographs taken over three
days in November 1975 (Sloman photo
nos. 333, 349, 352) documented the
creation of this collage. Motherwell
added the green paper at the bottom
before the collage was photographed
in its final state in July 1976 (Sloman
photo no. 439). The sheet music is from
Stravinsky’s Le sacre du printemps.
Motherwell also titled a collage
done in 1967 Torino Collage (c198).

This collage appears to have been
an alternative design for Hermitage, a
print commissioned by Knoedler &
Company in conjunction with an
exhibition of Russian art from the
Hermitage Museum in Russia
(Engberg and Banach 2003, no. 180).

Moscow’s Red Square and to the
square, predominantly red label from
the Hotel National, Moscow, which is
placed near the lower right. The background of this work was originally
