The collage element in this work is
part of a mailing wrapper for a package
sent to the Galerie André Emmerich,
Zurich, by the Suchard chocolate company. On the package, written by hand,
is the phrase “for Motherwell,” suggesting that this package was used to send
Motherwell the wrappers he used in the
Suchard on Orange series of collages
(see c274–c276 and c406–c409).
Motherwell exhibited with the
Galerie André Emmerich from 1974
to 1978.
