The collage element in this work is a
label from a bottle of Dom Perignon
champagne. This collage was first
shown in 1976 with the title New Year’s
Dawn. Around 1984 Motherwell
reworked the areas around the black
form and decided to leave the collage
untitled (as per the studio card for
the work).
