The collage element in this work is a
torn package from HB cigarettes, a
German brand. The work originally had
a yellow ground and was called HB on
Yellow (studio inventory photo no. ph
58-7). It was overpainted in blue and
retitled around 1974, between the times
it was shown in Princeton and at the
Janie C. Lee Gallery. The original yellow ground is visible in the incisions.
