This work was consigned to the
Lawrence Rubin Gallery in 1972 with
the title Gauloises and Sienna. It was
reworked in 1983, when the ground was
repainted in ochre and accents of white
and red were added near the collage
element (see also c320 and c337).
Motherwell gave the work its present
title just before he sent it to the Galería
Joan Prats exhibition in 1991.
