This work incorporates a page from
an article by Jan van der Meulen,
“Recent Literature on the Chronology
of Chartres Cathedral,” Art Bulletin 49,
no. 2 (June 1967): p. 153. The piece
of bright red paper is from the same
sheet used in three other collages (c253,
c254, and c258). In 1967 Motherwell
also did a series of paintings on paper
in which he used pages from this same
issue of the Art Bulletin as the support
(see w246–w249).
