comments
The pasted paper near the center of
this collage is the envelope for a letter
sent to Motherwell from the Spanish
painter Antonio Saura, postmarked
Paris, June 23, 1967 (Nelson photo
no. 33671). Sometime around 1973, the
crayon lines were added and the collage
elements modified by tearing the edges
of the envelope to reveal the blue
underpainting.
