comments
The title of this work refers to the
printed label at the center of the composition, which is from La Favorita
brand corn flour.
Though the work is signed and
dated 1962, it is seen in an earlier state
in studio photographs taken in April
1963. Sometime after those photographs were taken, Motherwell made
his final revisions, adding yellow ochre
paint to the area on the right side and
painting out a black gestural mark that
is still partially visible at the upper left.
